At the end of every year, I think about how not different the next year is going to feel and how silly it is to make resolutions. (For the last two years, this is most likely due to the fact that I have been one of the two idiots in our office that did not save any vacation days for the end of the year and end up sitting there alone and miserable and whiney. I will not make this mistake again...) Luckily, as soon as the first work day of the next January rolls around, I feel giddy, inspired, and, well, in fact different. It may be silly, but I love the feeling of a clean slate and the opportunity for a fresh new start. Starting now.
2010 was a great year for me. For no real reason at all. I had no life-changing experiences like many friends of mine--marriages, divorices, honeymoons, or big moves--but for many little reasons, the year was an extremely fun and happy one.Micha and I took our first extended vacation in a place foreign to us both, Malaysia, and learned that (thank goodness!) we indeed travel really really well together! We attended a multitude of weddings, 6 out of 7 to be exact, with some really awesome people and had an all around fantastic time doing so. I started making some long-term business plans with one of my very best friends and getting excited for what the future holds. And Micha and I started thinking about some exciting future travel plans as well.
2011 is what I'm calling the Year of Inspiration for us. Our big trip this year (I tend to too often break my life into travels and time leading up to a new trip) will be to visit my family in the US, in both LA and New York. We can't wait. Beyond that, I'm not really sure what this new year holds in store for me, but I'm certainly hoping for some new challenge, some visitors, and lots and lots of fun and planning.
I've also gotten a head start on my 2011 race season. I signed up for the Berlin Half Marathon (for the 3rd year in a row!) and have 3 other girlfriends who signed up with me! Now hopefully the weather will be more inviting than the rainy day we had last year...I also signed up for 2 Aquathlons and, of course, the Berlin Triathlon, once again. And resolved to train consistently throughout winter, which I can happily say I've already been doing. I started that last week, to get ahead before resolution time came around.
I'm excited to see what January has in store for me.
